Boys State Championships
Congratulations to C.J. Cash for reaching the Final Four of the State Doubles Championships last weekend. He finished 3rd Place with Alex Kobelt. The New Albany team lost an extremely close high quality match 7-6 7-6 to the State Champs from Sycamore: Nakul Narendran and Mustafa Ahmad, in which they fought off 8 match points. They bounced back and defeated the doubles team from Mason 6-3 6-0 for 3rd Place. Cash and Kobelt are both Juniors.
Senior Jeffrey Melvin won 1st round making 1st Team All State in Division I Singles . He lost in 3 sets to the State Champion Nathan Griffin from St. Ignatius. Upper Arlington also reached the finals of the OTCA State Championships, in which they were defeated 3-2 by Sycamore.
Sophomore Jacob Wareti won 1st round making 1st Team All State in Division II Singles. Like Jeffrey, he was a Doubles State Champion last year, and fell to the State Champion this year in 3 sets, Cincinnati Country Day’s Asher Hirsch. Jacob also competed in the OTCA State Championships, reaching the Finals with Columbus Academy.
