Tyler Stephen grew up in Columbus, Ohio and attended Worthington Kilbourne High School. While at Kilbourne, he was a 3-time conference champion and a state qualifier. The wolves also held a top 10 state ranking.
Tyler continued his career at Otterbein University where he played both first singles and first doubles for three years. He was a four-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection (2005-2008) and was a three-time selection for Academic All-Conference (2006-2008). In 2005, Tyler helped lead the Cardinals to the OAC tournament finals. While at Otterbein, he was a member of the Student Athletic Advisory Council (SAAC). He graduated with honors in 2008, receiving a degree in Business Administration.
Tyler is certified by the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) as an Elite Professional, and has been with the Racquet Club of Columbus since 2007. During his time at the Racquet Club he has worked individually with sectionally ranked players as high as Top 40 in the Midwest. In addition, his students have competed at the JTT National Championships. He is certified by the United States Tennis Association (USTA) as a High Performance Coach and has coached the Midwest 16s Zonals team in Oklahoma City.
Currently, Tyler is the head coach for the Otterbein University men’s team. He has also coached the Dublin Jerome teams and was named USPTA “Midwest High School Coach of the Year” in 2014. His girls won 4 OTCA state titles in 2011, 2012, 2014, and 2015. Individually, his team boasted the state champion doubles pair in 2011 and a state runner up doubles team in 2012. On the boys side at Jerome, he led his team to the conference championship in 2012, 2013, and 2015.
Previous to Jerome, he coached at Thomas Worthington High School in Columbus from 2009-2011. Along with the recent state and conference championships, he has coached 14 individual state qualifiers during his career. Tyler was named the OTCA “State High School Coach of the Year” in 2012. He also serves as the Ohio Valley Cup Girls Coach for Central Ohio (2011-2014 Champions).
